Having a baby is such a surreal experience. All of a sudden you realize how little you know! So many things that no one ever thought to teach you.
Quickly you find yourself plugging things into Google like, “What to do when a baby has been hiccupping for 20 minutes”. But what about brushing? Brushing? Babies don’t have teeth, what could I even brush?!
Fear not! We have the answers to questions you didn’t even know you should be asking! Oral health is something to consider as soon as possible, so here are some tips that will help you along the way.
EASE INTO BRUSHING
The ADA suggests that oral care be started as soon as possible. But there aren’t any teeth to brush when you have an infant. That’s fine, you can still ease into it by massaging their gums with a damp cloth. This removes bacteria from the gums and gets the baby used to the sensation of brushing.
AVOID BOTTLES IN THE CRIB
When laying a child down for a nap try not to leave a bottle in their mouth. Doing this would be the equivalent of you falling asleep while eating a candy bar. Ok, that may be a little overdramatic, but the point is, the bacteria within your baby’s mouth don’t need any help doing damage and a food source like a bottle is exactly that.
FIND A DENTAL HOME
